Israel is killing Gaza’s health workers

Deliberate destruction of Gaza's health system proves Israel's genocidal intent

By Rose Tedeschi

From the very beginning of its brutal assault on Gaza, the Israeli state has engaged in a systematic and deliberate campaign to destroy every institution capable of sustaining human life. The targeting of hospitals, clinics, ambulances and medical staff from the outset exposes Israel’s genocidal intent. A population cannot live without doctors, medicine, or places to heal. By destroying these, the IDF ensures that every bomb, every bullet and every act of violence inflicts maximum, irreparable damage.

This is not collateral damage; it is a premeditated war against the very infrastructure needed to sustain a population. When surgeons are forced to operate without anaesthetic or electricity, when hospitals are deliberately besieged and then raided, when those who provide aid are executed on a designated route, the objective is clear: to accelerate death on a mass scale.

The ‘double-tap’ strike – bombing a site and then bombing the rescuers—is the purest expression of this logic. It is a tactic designed not just to kill, but to terrorise, paralyse and eradicate the social bonds of solidarity and collective survival.

The Israeli military’s occasional apologies for ‘errors’ are nothing more than a grotesque performance, a thin veneer of accountability meant to pacify Western audiences while the machinery of death grinds on. An army that methodically dismantles a healthcare system and murders aid workers is not making mistakes; it is following a directive. Starvation is a weapon. The denial of medicine is a weapon. The destruction of hospitals is a weapon.

Western governments are complicit in this slaughter through arms shipments, diplomatic cover and political support. They cannot feign ignorance. They are endorsing a campaign of societal annihilation. The working class movement internationally must recognise this reality and respond with unyielding force. Only sustained mass opposition, through strikes, blockades and solidarity, can break the chain of complicity and halt this genocide.

There can be no neutrality in the face of such calculated brutality. The working class internationally must rise with unyielding fury. Dockworkers must refuse to arm the killers. Transport workers must halt the shipment of weapons. Every trade union must be mobilised to break all links with the Israeli war machine. The time for appeals is over. The time for resistance is now.
