Your Party’s Central Executive Committee is set to discuss a blacklist of socialist organisations and automatic ineligibility rules that would exclude any member of a group with a national political membership structure. These measures would overturn the dual membership rights explicitly written into Your Party’s founding constitution and endorsed by its inaugural conference. The CEC has no mandate to impose them.
The prospect of a new working class party generated enormous enthusiasm among hundreds of thousands of people looking for an alternative to Labour’s austerity, warmongering and class collaboration. That potential has been squandered by the people who now control the party’s apparatus.
The purge of socialists is the trump card of an anti-socialist clique which fears working class democracy like the plague — and with good reason. A party with recallable representatives, workers’ wages for officials and real membership control would threaten the privileges and political monopoly that the trade union and labour bureaucracy has exercised over the working class for generations.
We call on the CEC to reject the blacklist and withdraw these proposals. We call on branches across the country to treat any instruction to exclude affiliated socialists as illegitimate and to defy it.
Branches should endorse the statement published by DSYP and other socialist organisations. Members should sign this petition and the members’ charter.
